1. Refering to the federal government. "The reasons are several, most of the federal" -- Public Enemy (Black steel in the hour of chaos [1988]).
2. Something of exceptional quality or of an extreme nature. Used throughout E-40 tapes, probably Bay Area in origin.
3. Going federal: rising up in the game.
4. To "make a federal case of" something means to make a big deal out of it, usually when it's not worth it.
