La Familia

La Familia (The Family) is a hispanic gang with about 50 to 60 members ranging from the ages of 15 to 30, known for drug trafficing, acts of violence and tagging(spray painting). This gang was 1st reported in Scarborough, but then spreaded to west Toronto in the mid 90's. Regarded as a "scavenger" gang with no formal structure, police did not initially regard La Familia as a serious threat. Recently, however, La Familia have been adding numbers to their rank by recruiting more teens in Toronto's growing hispanic community.
