Go Go Music

(Originated and started in Washington D.C.) Go Go Music is played with congas, an electric piano and drummers, and a front line of rappers and singers. It is considered a form of funk. Go Go is usually highly energetic music, very syncopated, with a distinctively percussive character (cowbells, timbales, blocks). Go Go music started and originated in Washington D.C. EU and Chuck Brown were one of Go Go's first performers. Call and response, and calling out recognition of audience members and hoods, are common. In the new young bands, timbales often completely replace the role of congas.

Go-Go music may roughly be categorized into old-school Go-Go, Grown-n-Sexy Go-Go which includes more Neo-Soul influenced slow songs, and Bounce-Beat GO-GO usually played and listed to by the younger crowd.

Beat yo feet is a dance associated with bounce-beat Go-Go. It is performed like a battle between two or more people taking turns and insulting each other with dance moves. The dancers are usually enclosed in a circle and as one dancer is # embarrassed enough to step out an onlooker jumps in and picks up where the last dancer left off.
