Dank just means moist, damp, or humid, usually in an unpleasant way. So it probably refers to the wet end of the blunt that is in the mouth, or the smoke in the air like humidity.

Dank also means strong or intense weed (stronger gets you higher.)

Because moist marijuana is usually high quality, the word "dank" becomes synonymous with "high quality." Used in such a way, "dank" can be used as an adjective to describe something good, delicious, high quality, or other positive connotation. For example: "These eggs are dank! What did you put in them?", "Yeah dude his new album is dank as hell" , "I gotta say man her body is too dank"

The extreme version of "dank" can be "the dankest" or sometimes simply "the dankst." For example: "Yeah dude the new Hummer is the dankst"
