DJ Techjitsu
From Rap Dictionary
Originating from the Mid-West music scene [before Nelly]; DJ Techjitsu [aka Re:Def, A.P., Kid K-OS] currently resides in Los Angeles, CA. He got his start as a DJ while in high school by making “pause button” mixtapes. It was natural progression into turntables when he got a chance to DJ at the University of Missouri-Columbia. At the residence hall’s radio station, he eventually rose to the title of Hip-Hop Music Director.
His growing party-rocker skills landed a position as one of the DJs at a local nightclub/concert venue. "The Blue Note" is where he mixed for the weekly “Hump Night” while also spinning between Hip-Hop concerts acts. He spun a few parties for fraternities and “after-sets” on campus whenever possible. To make more loot for equipment, he branched out to do the occasional private party or wedding event. Since moving to Los Angeles, he has focused on being an event DJ and spinning private parties and events when booked.
Techjitsu™ is a term/phrase/concept he invented to express a love for technology and the philosophy/culture of the Samurai. In Japanese martial arts, "jutsu" or “jitsu” means an art form or specified technique. "Ryu" is the label given to the school that teaches or practices each specific art. When entering a martial arts school, there is almost always a training area, called a "dojo". This is where the art is crafted and perfected.
Being a bit of a computer geek, practitioner of several martial art forms, and veteran DJ/turntablist, 'Tech' decided to combine all of these elements into a name that could express his philosophy. "Techjitsu is my art [my method of DJing and creation]."
