DJ Red Alert

DJ Red Alert (born Fred Krute in The Bronx, New York City) is a DJ on Power 105.1 FM and has been recognized as a hip-hop pioneer. Red Alert has been noted for breaking in such acts and artists as: A Tribe Called Quest, Queen Latifah and Black Sheep.

Red also had a small rap management company in the late 1980s called Red Alert Productions, managing the careers of Native Tongues acts such as the Jungle Brothers, A Tribe Called Quest and Monie Love. Along with Cris "Baby Chris" Lighty of Violator Records fame (who ironically went on to work with Lyor Cohen and Russell Simmons at Rush Artist Management taking A Tribe Called Quest with him) and Dave Funkenklein (who later founded Hollywood Basic Records at Disney) Red offered the only alternative to Rush (who he despised) and Cold Chillin' Management.
