Byward Market

The Byward Market is a district in Downtown Ottawa, located east of the government & business district, surrounding the market buildings and open-air market on George, York, ByWard and William Streets. At one time, the area had a serious prostitution problem, which was remedied by a controversial rerouting of traffic through much of the residential area. Crime remains an issue however. The new Ottawa Police Street Crime Unit has been heavily active in this area in response to it's disturbing levels of Drug activity.
