A genre of music created in the 1970's in the urban areas of the Bronx, NY by African American pioneers such as Kool Herc (originally from Jamaica), Afrika Bambaattaa, Grandmaster Flash, Mele Mel, Kid Creole, Cowboy and a host of others.
