Catch a bad one

syn. "catch a case" To be criminally charged.

also, "catch a fed case" To be criminally charged in a federal court.

To catch a bad one simply is to have a bad situation befall you unexpectedly. To give someone a bad one is to have a bad accident happen to them on account of your planning and action.
